Pros:
- This may have been the last time that the Frau "dream-team", Leonie Rysanek, Christa Ludwig, James King and Walter Berry were assembled.
- Even though she avoids some of the high notes, Leonie Rysanek still manages to display complete mastery over the formidable role of the Kaiserin.
- James King was one of the few tenors in history to bring vocal beauty, in addition to his considerable power, to Strauss tenor roles.
Cons:
- Christa Ludwig manages the part of the Dyer's wife well, but without the ease of production that she had in the 1960s (she would abandon most of her soprano roles shortly after this performance.)
