Let's face it, this performance is more Italian than French but who cares. The singing is magnificent. Franco Corelli is stunning. He certainly conveys more sex appeal and charisma than any other tenor who assumed this role and it is arguable whether anyone else sang it better. Listen to his b flats in the aria. Gianna d'Angelo is his Juliette. She also gives more voice than most interpreters of this role, perhaps in attempt to rise to Corelli's level. And she has her moments. Her poison scene is especially exciting. The sound is good.
