Pros:
- Although the love from the audience is intense, Renata Tebaldi is not heard at her best as Wally. The top of her voice is just too precarious to the point that it is hard to completely relax when she is singing. That said, there is a richness in the middle of her voice that carries her through the majority of her scenes thanks, in part, to the lower tessitura of this role.
- Giuseppe Hagenbach is a challenging role for a tenor, but Carlo Bergonzi pulls it off with remarkable ease and élan.
- Although musically La Wally never delivers on the promise of its most famous aria "Ebben, ne andrò lontana", Catalani knew how to create a vehicle for great singers to shine. As Gellner, Peter Glossop rises to the challenge, relishing his show-stopping moments.
Cons:
- None to mention.
