Lovers of "esoterica" will appreciate this recording.   Carl Nielsen composed this work at the turn of the century.   Perhaps the opera seems at a disconnect with the musical style of the day (i.e. Orientalism and Expressionism.)  It does have a unique musical texture seemingly borrowing from Danish folk idioms.   All in all it is a very pleasant listen and worthy of renewed interest.  The cast assembled is mostly Swedish and includes such local favorites as Barbro Eriscon, Bo Lundberg and Sigurd Björling.  The sound is excellent.
