Wagner: Das Rheingold
Rehfuss, Borkh, Pölzer, Pernerstorfer; Ackermann
Bern, 1951
$9.95
Description:
This mid-century recording of Das Rheingold assembles a remarkable cast, favoring a more lyrical approach than is typical in Wagner. Heinz Rehfuss exemplifies this with a Wotan that eschews stentorian weight in favor of a mellow, youthful baritone. Inge Borkh is perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the recording, taking on the mezzo role of Fricka. While the part offers limited vocal opportunities, the natural glamour of her voice lends the goddess an imperious bearing, making her a formidable foil to Wotan.
