Michael Langdon, with his thunderous bass, is a commanding presence in the title role, while Pauline Tinsley, though given limited material as Sinaide, seizes every moment with her trademark dramatic urgency and vocal richness. Stuart Burrows reveals an unexpectedly intense dramatic edge, rounding out a strong principal cast. The sound is clear, though it leans slightly tinny.
