Any lover of operatic oddities would not be able to resist a French Siegfried. Although just ten years Wagner's junior and an unabashed admirer of his, Ernest Reyer opted for a more quintessentially French sound for his retelling of the Norse Saga. In fact, knowing nothing of the work, on first hearing it would be very easy to convince oneself that you are listening to Berlioz. This performance, broadcast from French Radio, is a good argument for the works obvious merits. It features Andrea Guiot, Guy Chauvet and Robert Massard. The sound is excellent.
