Despite the fact that Marisa Galvany and José Carreras were very different artists whose career trajectories went in completely different directions, they still manage to achieve the alchemy needed for a great performance of Tosca. Galvany throws herself into the title role with the gutsy abandon that made her a great Lady Macbeth and Abigaille without sacrificing Tosca's femininity. José Carreras sings Cavaradossi with exquisite style and youthful virility. Vern Shinall brings a suave malevolence to the role of Scarpia. The sound is fair to good.
