Puccini: Tosca
Souliotis, G. Raimondi, Colzani; De Fabritiis
Milano, 1971
$9.95
Description:
Elena Souliotis is caught in good voice and great company in this hot-blooded Tosca, conducted by Oliviero de Fabritiis. The criminally under-recorded tenor, Gianni Raimondi, is a thrilling Cavaradossi, and Anselmo Colzani is an urbane, powerful Scarpia. Souliotis takes a bit of time to warm up but manages a heartfelt “Vissì d’arte” and a thrilling rendition of the Act III love duet. The sound is problematic, and several minutes of music are missing from the first act. The performance makes up for it.
