It’s always interesting to hear how a dramatic soprano accustomed to Wagner adapts to Mozart. Hildegard Behrens, as Fiordiligi, handles both the coloratura and the tessitura with confidence, maintaining the strength of her voice without needing to scale it back. Trudeliese Schmidt complements her well, bringing a warm and ample mezzo to the role of Dorabella.
Christoph von Dohnányi takes a broadly romantic approach to the score, but draws clear articulation and a welcome sense of wit from the orchestra.
The sound is slightly recessed, though the quality of the vocal performances remains intact.
