Though her voice leans on the slender side for Santuzza, the focus and steel in her high notes more than compensate, allowing her to rise above the orchestra with ease—though perhaps less so in her lower range. As in her famed portrayal of Chrysothemis in Georg Solti’s Elektra, she brings a thrillingly untamed energy to the role. Francisco Lázaro is a solid Turridu, while a young Judith Forst makes a cameo as Lola.
