Listen to a Sample:
Ruth Welting was not a superstar in her day and, sadly, she left behind very few documents of her artistry. This recording of Lakmé, from 1976, captures her in excellent form in a role that fits her voice perfectly. The Bell Song is astounding in its precision, and what surprised me is that she was also able to convey voluptuousness in this role that you don't necessarily associate with a voice like hers. The sound is excellent.
