Cherubini: Medea (In German)
Borkh, Suthaus, Wagner, Neralic; Gui
Berlin, 1958
$9.95
Description:
Although much of the compositional style of Medea is rooted in the classical period, the title character clearly foreshadows the great dramatic soprano roles of the 19th and 20th centuries, making Inge Borkh a natural casting choice. She brings all of her trademark intensity while navigating both the dramatic and delicate demands of the role with ease. Sieglinde Wagner, often remembered for her supporting "numbered" roles, proves herself a standout as Neris. Her Act II aria is especially poignant and beautifully sung. Ludwig Suthaus is less effective as Giasone, offering little in the way of Classical elegance.
