Pros:

  • The combination of pristine, purity of tone and steely grit make Ingrid Bjoner an ideal Leonora.
  • Ludovic Spiess' lyrical, yet imposing Florestan is well paired with Bjoner. Both sound like they could have easily pivoted to singing Donna Anna and Don Ottavio, respectively, in Don Giovanni.
  • Berislav Klobucar was always a commanding presence in an opera pit, and this evening is no exception. We are treated to a particularly rousing rendition of Leonora #3 before the final scene.

Cons:

  • There are some brief breaks. The sound is only fair.

BONUS:
Ingrid Bjoner sings "Abscheulicher" from Fidelio
