Pros:

  • This recording marks the World Premiere of one the most important work for chorus and orchestra in the second half of the 20th century: Britten's War Requiem.
  • Peter Pears and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, obliquely representing the German and English sides of World War II, exchange poignant readings of Wilfred Owen's poetry.
  • Heather Harper is radiant in the soprano solos. Her achievement is doubly impressive considering she was sight-reading the part! (Galina Vishnevskaya had visa issues and couldn't in to the UK.)

Cons:

  • None to mention.
