Régine Crespin was a truly unique artist.  She had the ability to unleash the most opulent (and loud) tones.  The remarkable part about her artistry was not her ability to be larger than life, but her ability to pull back her oversized voice and create an intimacy the likes of which one often associates with Lieder or chamber music, not opera.  Kerstin Meyer, in the titles role is boyish and earnest.  Anneliese Rothenberger is a charming Sophie.  I was surprised by the size of her voice at times.  She could make sound when she wanted to.  Fritz Wunderlich sings the Sänger!  The sound is good although the last 5 minutes are marred by some static.  The trio is relatively fine though.
