Strauss’ delightful, yet rarely performed opera, Die schweigsame Frau gets some real star treatment in this performance from Buenos Aires. As Morosus, Kurt Böhme eschews commedia dell’arte clichés, delivering a thoughtful yet comic performance of Strauss’ Don Pasquale reboot. Fritz Wunderlich exudes youthful charm and bravado as his nephew, Henry, and makes much of Strauss’ gift for writing beautiful melodic lines. Ingeborg Hallstein as Aminta brings a pleasant tone to the proceedings, but vocally does not quite match the men. The sound is good.
