Wagner: Parsifal - Hofmann, Rysanek (role debut), Talvela, Adam, Mazura; Stein. Hamburg, 1976

$18.95

Description:

For Leonie Rysanek’s first outing as Kundry, the Hamburg State Opera brought together a powerhouse cast worthy of the occasion. Rysanek’s performance is fearless—sensual, anguished, and impassioned—delivered with her unmistakable intensity. Peter Hofmann is captured here in his early prime, and his lyricism as Parsifal offers a refreshing reminder of what made him so distinctive. Martti Talvela lends gravitas and warmth to Gurnemanz, while Theo Adam portrays Amfortas with wrenching dignity. Franz Mazura is chilling as Klingsor, his presence casting a dark shadow across the performance. The only drawback is that the sound quality is merely fair, though the musical and dramatic qualities more than make up for it.
