When you think of the role of Arturo in I Puritani two names come to mind: Alfredo Kraus and Luciano Pavarotti. It is not really fare to compare the two singers because they were so different, but it might be fair to say that if Pavarotti possessed the beauty of tone Kraus cornered the market in fearless abandon. In this performance no note is too high. It is thrilling to hear a tenor give so much on high Cs and above. He is joined by Anna Maccianti, a lovely lyric soprano. The sound is fair.
