Pros:
- The cast of this German-language Albert Herring surprisingly manages to capture the spirit and comic genius of Britten's chamber opera.
- Sena Jurinac brings Wagnerian scope to the role of Lady Billows, stopping just short of turning the character into caricature.
- Adolf Dallapozza sings the title role with a lyrical quality that you rarely hear in Britten.
Cons:
- My biggest critique of this performance is the liberties that were taken with Britten's score. The cuts at times seem draconian (the most egregious coming in the Act III threnody) and details in the score are altered in a way that distorts the overall effect of Britten's ingenious orchestration.
