She was one of those rare singers who could cast a spell with even the smallest phrase, and that charisma is vividly present in this recording. While the opera is often treated as a soprano showcase, it also provides substantial opportunities for the tenor and baritone, and both Amedeo Zambon and Silvano Carroli seize the moment, delivering performances of virile strength and refinement as Hagenbach and Gellner.
