Wagner: Tristan und Isolde - Grob-Prandl, Lustig, von Milinkovic, Blankenheim, Böhme, Patzak; Cluytens. Wien, 1956
$12.95
Listen to a Sample:
Pros:
- Gertrude Grob-Prandl's Isolde might lack in nuance but she makes up for it with astonishing power and seemingly endless vocal reserves. One can only imagine what it must have been like to hear her unleash one of her laser-focused high notes in person.
- Rudolf Lustig has some moments of impressive singing, but when the going gets tough he leans on a "Sprechstimme" style of singing that only goes so far in obfuscating his vocal fatigue.
- The star of the evening is André Cluytens who extracts a masterful performance from the orchestra soloists and chorus.
Cons:
- None to mention
