Wolfgang Windgassen makes one of his earliest appearances as Siegfried, a role he would go on to define over the next two decades. The Wanderer in Siegfried reveals a more reflective side of Wotan, and Hans Hotter excels at portraying the god’s rich ambiguity—still formidable, but increasingly focused on legacy rather than control. Windgassen does get hopelessly lost during the forging scene, but the performance as a whole remains a valuable document of two legendary artists.
