James McCray brings a refreshing sweetness and clarity to the role of Siegfried, his direct and unfussy diction contributing to a portrayal that feels grounded and sincere. Raimund Herincx, whose earlier performances in the cycle were mixed, fares better here as the Wanderer, his burnished bass-baritone lending gravitas to the role. Paul Crook is a standout as Mime, every word crisply delivered and emotionally shaded to convey not just cunning, but a hint of pathos. The stereo sound is very good, capturing the nuances of the performance, though Margaret Kingsley continues to struggle in the role of Brünnhilde, somewhat undercutting the impact of an otherwise strong cast.
