This recording brings together both a superb cast and excellent conductor. Wolfgang Windgassen was in excellent form in 1956 allowing him to portray a Parsifal that comes across as truly youthful. Martha Mödl was already beginning to be plagued by vocal problems that would define the rest of her career but she is fully committed in the part of Kundry despite the occasional wayward high-note. Eugen Jochum paces the music on the slow side without ever letting it become too lugubrious. The sound is very good.
