Parsifal – Act III
This poignant World War II–era performance of Parsifal features an inspired cast of fresh-voiced Wagnerians. At the center is Ludwig Weber, whose Gurnemanz is a model of dignity and gravitas. Holy Cow, this is surprisingly GREAT!
I am a Kna completist, but this one had me worried. 1942? Ludwig Weber as Gurnemanz? I expected poor sonics and Wobbly Weber as his normal self. Honestly, the sonics are virtually as good as in the 1951 recording, and better (except in spots) than many of the 1950s radio broadcasts from Bayreuth. But the real surprise was Weber. He is FANTASTIC! I never thought I would say that. This is definitely worth having. Order it without a doubt in your mind.
