Narrator Be Damned !

This happens to be a superb wrong language abridgement of Wagner's Lohengrin. A 1947 film soundtrack. The intrusive English voiceover added for the American market, can't detract from the near perfect casting of Giancinto Prandelli as Lohengrin, Renata Tebaldi as Elsa, and Elena Nicolai as Ortrud. Franco Capuana paces what is left of the score beautifully. Although recorded in a studio, the sound recording is not great. Italy remained many years behind its German, French, British and American recording rivals technically, until well into the early '60s.Hopefully someday, the original soundtrack, before the addition of the annoying narrator will make it onto disc.

The narrator wins

A narrator takes us through the text as the soloists are singing it. They sing in Italian. He narrates in English, most times while they're still singing. Elena Nicolai is the most abused with an Entweite Goetter that loses to his simultaneous plot description. Tebaldi sings a live recital to close this CD. Her regular recital fare, Puccini, Cilea, et. al. Four arias for a very delighted audience.
