Interesting collection of superb dramatic sopranos
This compilation is an excellent comparative study for hardcore Wagner and Ring fans. The Immolation scenes cover a roughly 30 year period, from the late 40s to the late 70s. The sound quality is variable, but you get to hear Astrid Varnay in an early version, and Gwyneth Jones at the top of her game. Birgit Nilsson, of course, is wonderful. I'm a fan of Anja Silja, so hearing her Brunnhilde was a treat.

I love this kind of compilation. Those of us who love to compare and assess for our own knowledge and pleasure will delight in these four cds. We have many of the great Brunnhildas ( Modl, Varnay, with their mezzo lower resonances, Niilsson, Flagstaff) and some great singer actressess, greatly admired and loved but relatively ignored by the gramaphone: Silja, Dvorakove , Kuchta.. There is an English version by Rita Hunter, although I must admit I didn't understand a word. The sound is good throughout with the exception of a clackerty version with Flagstaff- acceptable none the less
