Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg

Paul Schöffler delivers a richly nuanced Hans Sachs, his warm baritone capturing both the grandeur and the humanity of the role. Irmgard Seefried brings youthful vitality and genuine warmth to Eva, while Set Svanholm, though occasionally lacking finesse, impresses with a sturdy tenor that navigates Wagner's demands with power and confidence. His approach may not be subtle, but it resonates with authority. Although the orchestral sound lacks clarity, the vocal performances shine through.

MESITERSINGER - AN OPERA BUFFA?

Böhm was said to conduct Wagner trough Mozart's spirit. Here, as far as audible with the sound - this is driven to extremes: all the singers are on the light side, most of them rather young, singing with ease, legato and far from barking or shouting. It is not easy to verify, where (VOP, Radio) and when the performance took place. Neither 1954 nor on any other date the cast is shown in the electronic register of Vienna Staatsopernperformances. The voices you hear, however, seems the voices indicated in the booklet.Caused by the sound, it isr recommandable only for connaisseurs.
