This RING has cuts, but I can forgive this recording, sound is great, cast is out of this world. Birgit Nilsson love duet in the prologue of Gotterdammerung outstanding, she made me turn my head as she held out that last note of the duet. Everyone is top notch and the conducting never slow, very fast paced. There are little and I mean little blurbs from the orchestra. I will hear this RING again.

This is a wonderful cycle, given in Buenos Aires at the Teatro Colon in 1962. The leads are superb and all of the smaller parts are equally well sung. This is also one of the few cycles where the various characters are cast with the same singers throughout (except for Waltraute in Gotterdammerung, understandable because the tessitura of the part changes considerably from Walkure to Gotterdammerung). The sound is excellent and the pitch of the tape perfect. Wallberg wastes no time and does not dawdle, but neither does he rush. Das Rheingold is performed complete, the other three operas contain cuts, but I urge even the grouchiest of Wagnerians to hear this cycle. The sound is stereo most of the time and always is a pleasure to hear (how often can one say that when listening to a nearly half century old performance?). This is my 52 Ring Cycle, Brouwenstijn, Nilsson & Hotter vocaly it their Best, the recording transfer on the CD´s are exellent, comparible with the recordings in Bayreuth 1960-1962 by Kempe, and Leinsdorf Met 1961/62

I was not prepared for the depth of vision that Heinz Wallberg brings to this music. The variation of tempi is always at the service of the drama and provides great understanding and comprehension of the emotional concerns of the cycle as well as a perfect understanding of the architecture of this spralling work. The orchestra plays with great feeling throughout and there so many solo lines that are shaped so superbly, you MUST hear it for a deeper understanding of this great music. The brass seems intonationally challenged in Walkure in particular. Yet the feeling of the strings makes this cycle soar! The singers are favorites of mine with many recordings and broadcasts to their credit in my collection. Yet,I was not prepared for how deeply musical, beautiful and interesting Uhl is in his traversal of Loge! I find the brightness of timbre unusual for Siegmund, yet I get great fulfillment from his interpretation there too. Nilsson is at a point of discovery. The freshness and sponteniety of her responses to Wotan and her total involvement in Gotterdammerung are very different than either of her published cycles. Hotter is working with a force of will that translates into a ripe interpretation of Wotan that I just love. I wouldn't want to be without this cycle. Browenstijn saves the day at the end of Act 1, You'll have to hear Walkuere to know what I mean! Boese is a beautiful voice as Fricka, a little bit challenged and Van Mill has a beauty of voice as Fasolt. Amazing.

Es ist eine gelungen Ring-Aufnahme mit den damaligen besten Sängern. Hervorzuheben sind Birgit Nilsson und Hans Hopf. Hans Hopf zeigt eine beeindruckende Leistung als Siegfried. Er ist wohl der letzte Heldentenor mit baritonaler Stimmfärbung. Birgit Nilsson brilliert durch ihre schöne durchschlagskräftige Sopranstimme. Die Sänger klingen nie angestrengt sonder sind bis zum Ende voll da.
