Pros:

  • Despite the limitations of the sound, this recording is a must-have for Pauline Tinsley fans, or anyone who appreciates a formidable dramatic soprano voice.
  • Tinsley brings searing intensity to the role of Senta without ever compromising the beauty of her tone.
  • William Dooley does an admirable job as the Dutchman and Spiro Malas conveys fatherly warmth as Daland.

Cons:

  • The sound on this recording is far from ideal. There is a particularly bad patch in the overture.
