Wagner: Das Rheingold (Extended Excerpts) - Boehm, Shacklock, Svanholm, Weber, Klein, Turner; Rankl. London, 1950

$8.95

Description:

This recording is a fascinating document of one of the earliest preserved broadcasts from Covent Garden. Andreas Boehm brings mellifluous grace to the role of Wotan, and Set Svanholm offers one of the finest portrayals of Loge—combining stentorian power with capricious agility. Ludwig Weber lends considerable nobility to Fasolt, while Jean Watson is an exceptionally fine Erda. The performance is incomplete, with a number of drop-outs—most notably the final 10 minutes of the opera—and there is a fair amount of hiss interspersed throughout the recording.
