If you don't know Liane Synek yet, you are in for a real treat. Synek's peerless voice had the silvery sheen of Milanov with the steel of Birgit Nilsson and was truly at home in both the Italian and German rep. Whether singing over the full orchestra or spinning a delicate pianissimo, Synek's sturdy technique and impeccable style carried her far. Sadly she never broke through to the big time which is why recordings like this are so valuable. She is joined by Helge Rosvaenge as Riccardo. Nearing age 70, Rosvaenge couldn't really scale his voice back lower than a below, but he no less manages the tessitura quite admirably. The sound is fair and there is a portion missing at the begging of Act III before Amelia's aria.
