Mr. Eisenberg's review below echoes many of my thoughts about these excerpts. They're not essential listening, but fans of Tinsley, Quilico, and Molese will definitely want to hear them in these roles. The excerpts cover Act One, scene two from the beginning through the Ulrica/Amelia/Riccardo trio. Act Two is heard complete as is Act Three, scene one. Rather disappointingly, nothing from the final scene is present.Tinsley is a wonderful Amelia, one of those unique singers fully capable of singing anything Verdi requires. She shapes and phrases the music as if she were a native Italian. Molese demonstrates again what a fine and underrated singer he was. Quilico is heard in his prime, before a certain woolliness overtook his beautiful baritone sound. Audrey Glass is a distinctive Ulrica with a rich, well-controlled mezzo-soprano. I would love to have heard more of Ricky Turofsky's Oscar, but things are what they are.The sound is mostly listenable though the tapist is a little restless here and there. The voices are recessed, but usually audible.For fans of the singers.

After the opening, Ulrica's aria with considerable bleed through from a performance of 'Nabucco' that must have been on the other side of the source tape, the sound is more or less listenable. That track is incorrectly listed in the first place. Given in the track listing as "Posa in pace", which is, in fact, not present on the disc at all.The performance is likable, if nobody is quite in best voice. Tinsley and Quilico are always exciting to listen to, as is Michele Molese as Gustave III, even if his voice is light for this role. Audrey Glass is a strong Ulrica with one or two pitch issues. A pity we don't get more of Riki Turofsky's Oscar, a really superb coloratura, probably the best in Canada at that time. We get neither of her arias.Mario Bernardi paces as much of the score as there is beautifully. If only the sound recording were better !
