The fresh-voiced Birgit Nilsson on this recording could easily pass for a Verdi specialist. She brings her signature power and steely tone to Amelia, while also delivering a refinement that is often rare among dramatic sopranos.

Joseph Feiersinger faces more challenges transitioning from Wagner to Verdi but still demonstrates impressive control in his performance. Jean Madeira and Erika Köth shine as Ulrica and Oscar, respectively, with both delivering excellent portrayals.
