Verdi: Un Ballo in Maschera (In German) - Nilsson, Feiersinger, Metternich, Madeira, Köth; Erede. München, 1955
Listen to a Sample:
The fresh-voiced Birgit Nilsson on this recording could easily be mistaken for a true Verdi soprano. She brings power and steely tone, which were her hallmarks, to Amelia as well as a refinement that is often elusive to dramatic sopranos. Joseph Feiersinger has a little more difficulty making the transition from Wagner to Verdi but still sings with impressive control. Jean Madeira and Erika Köth are both excellent as Ulrica and Oscar, respectively. The sound is very good.
