DESCRIPTION
Montserrat Caballé is the main draw in this performance of Un Ballo in maschera. Captured at the height of her powers, Caballé sings Amelia with sublime attention to the delicacy of Verdi’s vocal writing, while holding nothing back when the music calls for the full power of her gleaming soprano.
The rest of the cast is excellent, particularly the Riccardo of Michele Molese, who sings with ardor and beauty of tone, and Ernest Blanc, whose robust baritone is ideally suited to Renato, acquitting Verdi’s vocal lines with power and legato.
