This Traviata is important because it features two great singers, Luciano Pavarotti and Renata Scotto at the beginning of their careers singing together. In 1965 Scotto was untouchable in roles like Gilda, Lucia and Violetta. She combines vocal agility, Verdian line and a deep connection to both the text and the style. Pavarotti sings with ardor and finesse. Peter Glossop is also excellent as Germont.
