This recording hardly needs any praising at all. Who has not heard of the Lisbon Traviata? Maria Callas was nearing the end of her career but she brings unimaginable pathos to the role. "Addio del passato" is sung almost in a whisper until she gets to "amore d'Alfredo perfino mi manca" and she opens up her voice in an outpouring of regret. This is just one of the many details of this legendary performance. Alfredo Kraus sings the character that bears his name with grace and pathos. The sound is excellent.
