Verdi: Otello - Vinay, Stella, Taddei; Beecham. Buenos Aires, 1958
Listen to a Sample:
Ramón Vinay had one of the most unique careers of any male singer. He started out singing Tristan and Otello and ended it with Falstaff, Dr. Bartolo and even the Grand Inquisitor. Here he is still fresh and uses his burnished and sometimes labored sound to create a truly tortured protagonist. Antonietta Stella is radiant as Desdemona while Giuseppe Taddei sings Iago with snarly malevolence. Sir Thomas Beecham leads the band. The sound is good.
