Pros:
- I would direct anyone who claims that Gwyneth Jones blew out her voice by the 1970s to this spectacular performance of Otello. She brings all of the power that she was known for, as well as some exquisite phrasing, the likes of which you might expect from an accomplished Mozart singer. I came away thinking that she may be one of the greatest Desdemonas I have ever heard.
- Hans Beirer brings enormous heft and admirable vocal security to the title role.
- Kostas Paskalis' pristine baritone almost sounds too pretty as Iago.
Cons:
- The sound is single perspective, and there is some mild skipping at the end of Act II.
