This English-language performance of Otello assembles a trio of stellar singers who manage to deliver the text with crystal clarity while preserving the Italianate essence of Verdi's music. Richard Cassilly brings remarkable range to the title role, gliding effortlessly between lyrical warmth and visceral fury. Teresa Stratas, despite her unmistakable Canadian accent, delivers a deeply moving Desdemona, marked by extraordinary vocal control and interpretive depth. Peter Glossop channels Iago's menace with the poise of a Shakespearean actor, supported by his commanding baritone. While the audio suffers from a few brief dropouts, they do little to diminish the impact of this gripping performance.
