Birgit Nilsson had a very early triumph playing Lady Macbeth with Fritz Busch. Some twenty years later she proves that she still has the goods. From her opening aria she unleashes a high C that would stop any king in his tracks and despite being into her fifties and having scores of Wagner and Strauss roles under her belt she can still float the d flat at the end of the sleep walking scene. The sound on this recording is fair but Birgit always comes through!
