Excellent performance from Tinsley and Herincx Great hear them again as Nabucco and Abigaille. The recording is good. The amateur WNO chorus as thrilling as they often were in those far off days. Very enjoyable.

Pauline Tinsley was one of those singers who never got her due in the recording studio. Except for Colin Davis' first studio recording of Idomeneo (only briefly available on CD and out-of-print for years now), she has precious little in the way of a commercial recording legacy. Thank God for the pirates then as Tinsley was one heck of an exciting singer. Here she is on fire as Abigaille, handily negotiating Verdi's coloratura and adding a number of Marisa Galvany-like high notes (a high D at the end of Act One, an E-flat at the end of her duet with Nabucco). Not every note lands perfectly, but no matter: Tinsley is a law unto herself.The other singers are equally good. Grant occasionally ducks a top note, but his voice is so resonant and beautiful you don't care. Herincx shows himself to be quite a Verdian, singing smoothly with a great sense of line. Erwen and Davies are far above average in their smaller, but no less important assignments. The chorus and orchestra are both capable while Balkwill leads a worthy performance. Fortunately, he didn't feel the need to arrange a new edition of the opera for this occasion. The sound is mostly good though there are a few more bumps and pops along the way than I would like. The English diction is excellent; one can actually follow the plot.All Tinsley fans or those who enjoy opera in English should get this.

I saw the production a number of Times both in Llandudno & Birmingham - it was just like being there accurate to my memory

Considering my only Nabucco is the 1949 Callas recording anything would be a benefit! I love it though and enjoyed it. Pauline Tinsley was so vastly under-represented in the recorded music field.
