Elena Souliotis' prime may have lasted only a few years, but those years were exceptional. Fortunately, this recording captures her in all of her glory. She fearlessly ascends to high Cs, only to plummet to a low C with thrilling effect. Peter Glossop makes a compelling case for being one of the greatest Verdi baritones of his time. In particular, his performance of "Dio di Giuda" is a masterclass in effortlessly spinning a legato line without a hint of fatigue or strain.
