So a Macbeth with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau may not be the most Italian endeavor, but on both the Lyric and the Operatic stage this role requires a great actor and he is just that.   Captivated by his interpretation, it is easy to overlook how securely his voice rises to the challenges of this quintessential Verdi baritone role.  Isn't that the test of a truly great singer?  Grace Bumbry voice was in pristine form in the early sixties and sings this role nearly flawlessly.  There were few voices of her size that could move the way hers did.  Wolfgang Sawallisch conducts.  The sound is very good.  The prelude, unfortunately, is missing.
