Verdi: Luisa Miller - Ricciarelli, Carreras, Bruson; Previtali. Torino, 1976
Listen to a Sample:
I came to Luisa Miller rather late in life, but I am making up for lost time as this is quickly becoming one of my favorite middle Verdi operas. Especially when there is a cast of this caliber assembled. Katia Ricciarelli and José Carreras were a legendary couple both on and off stage. It is a shame that their recorded legacy consists mostly of ill-conceived studio recordings that were made when the brilliance of their youth was already starting to fade. Fortunately that is not the case here and both performers bring a youthful exuberance along with an understanding of vocal production well beyond their years. Renato Bruson rounds out the cast as Miller. The sound is excellent.
