Gilda Cruz-Romo is caught in excellent form in this exciting performance of Luisa Miller. She is particularly effective in a heart-wrenching duet with her father, sung with a light touch and a strong backbone by Matteo Manuguerra. Luciano Pavarotti could not be called "dramatically involved" but he is in resplendent voice. Raffaele Aire is a noble sounding, oddly sympathetic Walther, another in Verdi's long line of tortured murderers. Unfortunately, about two minutes of music are missing from Luisa and Frederica's confrontation. Peter Maag conducts.
