Gilda Cruz-Romo is caught in excellent form in this exciting performance of Luisa Miller. She is particularly effective in a heart-wrenching duet with her father, sung with a light touch and a strong backbone by Matteo Manuguerra. Luciano Pavarotti could not be called "dramatically involved" but he is in resplendent voice. Raffaele Aire is a noble sounding, oddly sympathetic Walther, another in Verdi's long line of tortured murderers. The sound is good, but unfortunately about two minutes of music are missing from Luisa and Frederica's confrontation. Peter Maag conducts.
