Verdi: La Traviata - Sass, Kraus, Bruson; Delacote. London, 1977

Sylvia Sass' career was over almost as quickly as it began. This performance of La Traviata captures her at her peak before she was tempted by more dramatic repertoire and displays that had she made better role choices, she very well may have become one of the most sought after sopranos of her day. Her voice is rich and full and she has incredible dynamic control even at the extremes of her range along with an innate sense of musicality. She is joined by Alfredo Kraus in his namesake role and an imposing Renato Bruson as Germont. The sound is good.
