As Violetta, Roberta Peters takes a bold turn away from the "-ina" roles (Zerlina, Norina, etc) that made her a star, and offers some full-throated singing that, quite frankly, I never knew she had in her. My one critique of Peters is that when she doesn't have the support of the orchestra underneath her, the pitch often sags.

Giuseppe Campora brings effortless, ample tone to the role of Alfredo. Although the cast is world class, the chorus and orchestra give "regional opera" a bad name.
