This performance is priceless in that is preserves a very early glimpse of the career of the great Jussi Björling. It is a given that Björling's voice is absolutely gorgeous. Many have extolled his singing much better than I could. What always struck me about Björlings' performances was the straight-forward honesty that he brought to each part he sang. He wasn't trying to posture a leading man, he just sang from the soul. This is very much evident in this performance of La Traviata. It is worth noting that Hjördis Schymbert is quite good as Violetta. The sound is very good.
